In this study, we illustrate how our satellite-based nowcasting solutions can be used to track the evolution of the economic impact during one month of the nationwide lockdown in Malaysia imposed in June 2021 in response to the latest surge of the pandemic.

Satellites can image almost every corner of the earth. ML algorithms can be developed to recognize objects, detect changes, and measure economic activity with these images. This opens up endless possibilities. The question is not only what to look for – but where to look for it?
